WASHINGTON, June 1, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Green America vehemently denounced the decision by President Trump to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement.

“This move is exactly the wrong direction for our nation and world,” said Fran Teplitz, Green America’s executive co-director. “There is tremendous urgency – for the sake of our communities, human health, the environment, and the economy – to expedite the transition to a clean energy economy that works for everyone. Trump’s decision to support the fossil fuel industry over the interest of people and the planet is an historic failure.”

The Paris Climate Agreement has tremendous global support. However, rather than exerting positive US leadership to address climate change, the Trump Administration is denying the problem and exacerbating the challenge faced by the global community. Recognizing the imperative of building our clean energy infrastructure would create jobs, boost our economy, and increase our national security.

Green America works with 200,000 consumers, investors, and business members to advance renewable energy and to cut greenhouse gas emissions as core elements of a green economy. This work has never been more important. Global leaders, the scientific community, and millions of people are demanding leadership to address the climate crisis. The U.S. should be a front-runner when it comes to clean energy technology and infrastructure; we should choose to be leaders at this most crucial time. Unfortunately, the Trump Administration is failing us all.
