Spooky Tunnel In Colorado Is Rumoured To Be Haunted By Orphan Children
Ever had that feeling that someone or something is watching you? Usually the creepier the place, the more likely we are to experience that feeling. Some would say that the sensible thing to do would be to avoid those kinds of places altogether, but sometimes being sensible doesn’t have anything to do with it.
Humans tend to seek out potentially dangerous situations for the adrenaline rush, and these types of people are usually called thrill-seekers. When thrill-seeking combines with a paranormal curiosity, then you have someone willing to enter say, a spooky tunnel in Colorado that’s rumored to have supernatural occurrences.
Colorado used to be famous for its mining and railroads, so it’s got a plentiful supply of large tunnels, both new and old. Some of the largest underground passages include the Eisenhower Tunnel at almost 2 miles in length, but there’s another tunnel that has captured people’s attention for something besides its size.
The tunnel we’re talking about is one of the Gold Camp Road tunnels which are located in the hills of Colorado Springs’ Bear Creek Park. These tunnels served both automobiles and railroads.
When the railroad became less popular, many of these tunnels were shut down. Three tunnels remained open as they were utilized for automobile passage instead of railroads.
Here comes the spooky part. The rumors are that these tunnels are haunted, and it all stems back to a school bus full of orphans reportedly being killed when a tunnel collapsed. The bus was driving through the tunnel at the time, and the driver, as well as every orphan passenger, were killed immediately.
There’s been a number of strange occurrences reported since the school bus incident. Many travelers have claimed to experience some paranormal activities including the faint sounds of children screaming, the feeling of being pushed by someone, and children’s handprints and footprints on cars.
Many of these reports come from the third tunnel, but the second has had similar strange occurrences. The tunnels have had other horrible stories swirling around them besides just the school bus incident. Some of the people working in the tunnels also died during construction. This might be one too many deaths for a handful of tunnels…
The tunnels now have imposing gates surrounding them to bar entry. Do you think these gates are suspicious, perhaps trying to keep something paranormal trapped inside? Or are these gates simply here to protect trespassers from getting hurt in the tunnels?
The ghastly stories of these tunnels are enough to scare many people away, but some can’t help but feel curious about what actually lies within them. Check out this YouTube video to see a tour of one of the tunnels and the explorers’ run-ins with what they believe were supernatural occurrences. Obviously, these explorers either bypassed the gates or went on this adventure into the tunnels before the gates were erected.
