Even though crashes are rare, there’s an interesting reason why your attention to safety training at the beginning of your flight is essential. You'd be surprised how effective training is. A military source on Reddit has explained how often in the case of an emergency the part of your brain that makes you an emotional human shuts off to a certain extent, as you go into autopilot. In such a circumstance, you default to how you were trained. There’s a name for it: Condition Black. You never know how one will react in a traumatic situation, but that is exactly why they train you so that there is a much better chance that your brain will just take over and do what it was trained to do. As a similar example, several FBI agents, who were trained to always holster their gun after each shot at the range, have experienced shootouts where they would fire then holster despite still being in danger. In the fire service these are called training scars.
